Dolly Parton "Coat of Many Colours" (1971)
Dolly got her first record contract in 1965 before the age of 20, and had been so successful
that by the time 1970 rolled around, her record company released a
greatest hits album.
This was (I think) her first album of wholly original songs, which helped
to cement her place in country music history. It's a great collection of well
written songs, that tell some really lovely stories; the way that
country does best.
I own a 3 disc Greatest Hits of Dolly's stuff, so I had heard some of
these before (especially the brilliant title track) but there were plenty of other
good songs in this album.
