Mott the Hoople "Mott" (1973)
These guys sound so Bowie-esque it's not funny. They were coming off the
back of the Bowie penned and produced "All the young dudes" (Bowie was a fan of the band) so maybe there was a
little of that magic dust left in the air. Definitely a kind of Bowie/Bolan glam
flavour to the music and vocals.
Mott eked out their place in the music world at the time, but they were
overshadowed by so many of the bands around them, including Bowie and
the new young band who opened for them on tour; Queen.
It's a solid, fun, and not uninteresting pop-rock album, but I can also
see why they didn't become as famous as some other groups.
