Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder "Talking Timbuktu" (1994)
The album won a grammy for best world music album. One of the albums made by Ry Cooder with collaborators from around the world as he travelled, investigating different countries' indigenous and folk musics.
Don't really have too much to report about this one. It has a deep
folksy blues sound to it, which some critics apparently accused Toure of
copying from the USA. But as he pointed out, that style had come to
the US from Africa when its proponents had been unceremoniously
transplanted from one continent to the other.
