Neil Young "Tonight's the Night" (1975)
Following the success of "Harvest", Neil Young should have been on top of
the world. However, two of his friends had died from heroin overdoses, he
was depressed, and felt isolated by his fame. In an effort to escape the
fame and formula of Harvest he assembled a band and curated tequila
soaked sessions where his lyrics kicked against drug addiction, his
celebrity and the world at large.
Young's record company were not happy with the result and held it aside
in the hopes that Young would come up with something more palatable for
the mainstream... Young released 'On the beach' which I guess caused
them to throw their hands in the air and say "fine Neil, be a miserable bastard"
and release it.
