Captain Beefheart "Safe as Milk" (1967)
Hmm not a lot to say about this one. For all his reputation as a
consummate weirdo, Beefheart's "safe as milk" album sounds like a pretty
basic '60s garage' affair. There's a momentary detour into poppy
soul with "I'm glad" and a couple of moments of weirdness, but nothing compared to his later albums.
Apparently
Beefheart had recently got out of a contract with A&M whose rep had deemed the songs 'too negative' and 'not safe for his daughter's ears'. Really though they are safe; safe as.... well, y'know.
